GENERAL SANTOS CITY — At least 220 elementary learners in parts of Region 12 (Soccsksargen) received school supply packages from the Police Regional Office (PRO) as classes in public schools open on Monday.

Lt. Col. Aldrin Gonzales, PRO-12 public information officer, said Friday the initiative was in line with the “Bigay Eskwela” program of the Philippine National Police Officers’ Ladies Club (OLC).

Gonzales said members of OLC-12, led by Carina Rasco, wife of PRO-12 chief Brig. Gen. Eliseo Tam Rasco, managed to raise some PHP36,260 worth of school supplies for the project. These include pad papers, notebooks, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, plastic envelopes, crayons, and art papers, he said.

“This is part of our engagement with our schools and local stakeholders for the opening of classes,” he said.

Gonzales said the project was on top of the assistance earlier extended by PRO-12 and local police units in the 2019 Brigada Eskwela or the National Schools Maintenance Week.

The recipients of the school supply packages were selected learners of the Sitio Nop Elementary School, Alabel town in Sarangani province; Cebuano Elementary School in Tupi, South Cotabato; and Datu Talipasan Elementary School in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat.
The OLC-12 has been coordinating with another public elementary school in Kidapawan City for the project.

The group distributed the school supplies to beneficiaries at the Sitio Nop Elementary School in Alabel, Sarangani on Thursday.

Carina Rasco said in a statement that the activity was part of their efforts to help build a “good relationship” with local communities,
as well as promote synergy and partnership for the maintenance of peace and order.

“Rest assured that PRO-12 and OLC-12 are always ready to extend help to our communities and residents, especially those in need,” she said.
