Chief Justice Lucas P. Bersamin

MANILA –– Chief Justice Lucas P. Bersamin emphasized the commitment of his administration to leave no stone unturned in reforming the country’s legal education system.

“The impact of legal education in the lives of our people is far reaching, and cannot be taken for granted,” Bersamin said during the Regional Consultative Meeting for National Capital Region and CALABARZON on Legal Education at the University of Santo Tomas on Thursday.

“The law itself pervades so much of public policy and human affairs,” he added.

The magistrate said legal education is “no doubt” essential to the maintenance of the Rule of Law.

He added it is “a regime that, for former UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, ‘is crucial for promoting economic growth, sustainable development, human rights and access to justice.”

In a statement, the high court said the meeting is the last of the consultative meetings prior to the Legal Education Summit (LES) which will take place in the coming months.

Last year, Bersamin has promised to make reforms in the judiciary during his 11-month tour of duty as Chief Justice.

Bersamin replaced Teresita Leonardo-De Castro who retired from government service in October last year.

He will serve the post until October 2019 when he reaches the mandatory retirement age.
