MANILA — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) reminded drivers of public utility vehicles (PUVs) to grant fare discounts to students in time for the opening of classes on Monday.

In its statement, the LTFRB said students may avail of a 20 percent fare discount during weekdays, weekends and holidays pursuant to Memorandum Circular 2017-024.

“Students can avail of the 20 percent discount from Monday to Sunday including summer breaks and legal holidays as long as they present their IDs,” the board’s statement read.

The LTFRB imposes a fine of PHP6,000 for first offense, PHP 11,000 fine and 30-day impoundment of vehicles for second offense and a fine of PHP16,000 and cancellation of franchise for third offense.

Students or any commuter may take videos or pictures showing the plate number and type of PUVs that do not provide fare discounts and post them on the official social media accounts of LTFRB.
