DOJ to get new undersecretary after Aguinaldo’s party-list win

By Benjamin Pulta/Philippine News Agency

MANILA — The Department of Justice (DOJ) will get a new undersecretary to replace one of its ranking officials who was elected as a party-list representative in the May 13 mid-term elections.

“We lost one Usec, so we are getting one replacement,” Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra told reporters, referring to Bahay party-list Rep. Naealla Bainto-Aguinaldo who has left her post as undersecretary at the DOJ following her party-list win.

Malacanang has already picked a replacement for Aguinaldo as well as a new assistant secretary, Guevarra said.

“But I will not tell the names until the official appointment papers have been delivered to the DOJ,” he added.

Aguinaldo’s office at the DOJ was in charge of administration, finance, budget, procurement, and funding.

President Rodrigo earlier appointed lawyer Benedicto Malcontento to head the DOJ’s National Prosecution Service (NPS) as Prosecutor General.

He took his oath of office before Guevarra on Tuesday.
