Classes suspended in Albay due to continuous rains

By Mar Serrano/Philippine News Agency

LEGAZPI CITY – Classes in all levels were suspended on Tuesday in the towns of Guinobatan, Polangui, Libon, and Ligao City, all in Albay, due to the moderate to heavy rains spawned by Tropical Depression Falcon since Monday night.

Local disaster councils issued a disaster advisory suspending classes in anticipation of flooding and landslides in low-lying areas and mountain slopes.

The suspension of classes is a disaster preemptive measure that would keep students out of danger, the advisories said.

Meanwhile, the province’s weather bureau office has warned small seacraft against sailing as big waves due to strong to gale force winds are expected to affect Catanduanes, eastern coasts of Albay, and Sorsogon.

Rough to very rough seas, with waves 2.8 meters to 4.5 meters high, would be experienced in these areas.
