PCG rescues missing fisherman in Iloilo

ILOILO CITY, Philippines. (25 August 2019)- A joint rescue team of Philippine Coast Guard, 605th Coast Guard Auxiliary District (CGAD) and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) successfully rescued a fisherman who went missing at the vicinity waters off Barangay Ambuyoan, San Joaquin, Iloilo City last August 23.

CGSS San Joaquin received a call from Lieutenant Kenneth Lacerna PCGA informing that a certain Mr. Reynaldo Malate, a 48 year-old resident of Barangay Ambuyoan, did not return from fishing activity and was reported missing.

Upon receipt of the report, the joint rescue team proceeded to the abovementioned Barangay to conduct a Search and Rescue Operation. The team successfully rescued Mr. Malate and towed his motorbanca enroute to the shoreline of Brgy. San Joaquin,Iloilo.

Investigation revealed that Mr. Malate departed from Brgy. Ambuyoan onboard his unnamed motorbanca to conduct a fishing venture at the vicinity waters off San Joaquian ,Iloilo. Unfortunately, his motorbanca encountered engine trouble while transiting enroute back to the shoreline of the said barangay at approximately 5.9 nautical miles. His motorbanca drifted to a marker and he managed to tie it there.

Further, Mr. Malate tried to troubleshoot the engine of his motorbanca but yielded with negative result and decided to wait for rescue.

Personnel of MDRRMO San Joaquin brought Mr. Malate to the nearest hospital at San Joaquin Mother and Child Community for medical treatment. He returned home in good physical condition
