DepEd reports improved School-Based Feeding Program implementation

LAOAG CITY — Barely a month after the Department of Tourism (DOT) endorsed the development of a village government-initiated tourism project in Poblacion, Burgos town, a team of architects and engineers from the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) arrived in Ilocos Norte to personally visit the project.

Located along the national highway, the development site sits on a 5,430-square meter lot the Poblacion local government unit purchased from its collection of real estate taxes.

After the project tour, Joegie Jimenez, village chief of Poblacion said Friday he hopes TIEZA will support the project which aims to attract more tourists to visit Burgos town.

As economic growth continues to flourish in this northern gateway of Luzon, Jimenez said he initiated the establishment of a local investment hub in his village to have a share in the tourism development.

One of the major concerns of investors coming to Ilocos Norte is to secure their investment and one way of doing so is to partner with local government units.

Through a public and private partnership agreement being promoted by the national government, Jimenez said the proposed Amianan tourism village is open to investors.

In fact, talks are now underway with some investors who expressed interest to open business in Poblacion.

As part of the development plan, a multi-purpose building will be erected for lease to businessmen.

At the back of the proposed Amianan village is also a small water impounding project being developed as an agro-tourism site such as setting up a model organic farm, raising tilapia and other indigenous fruits and vegetables. (Leilanie Adriano-PNA)
