South Korean robber falls in Mandaluyong

MANILA — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Tuesday announced the arrest of a South Korean national wanted for robbery and abduction in his country.

NBI Director Dante A. Gierran identified the suspect as Yu Yongseok who is wanted for committing robbery with abduction along with his cohorts against three South Korean victims in Cebu City in 2013.

Yu has a standing warrant of arrest issued by the Seoul Central District Court in South Korea.

Gierran said the NBI received a letter from PSupt. Oh Ikjoon, Police Liaison Officer of the Korean National Police Agency, requesting for investigation, arrest and deportation of Yu, leading to the issuance of an Interpol red notice against him.

He said that after securing an authorization to apply for Provisional Arrest Warrant pursuant to the provisions of the extradition treaty between Manila and Seoul, in relation to P.D. 1069, an ex-parte application for provisional arrest of Yu was filed. Thus, the Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 45 issued a provisional arrest prior to a formal request for extradition.

Under strict orders from Gierran, NBI operatives proceeded to Lucksea Global Corp. located at the penthouse of Shaw Center Mall in Mandaluyong City on Sept. 27 and served the provisional warrant of arrest against the South Korean national.

The suspect was then brought to NBI where he underwent booking procedures in the presence of his counsel, Atty. Jose Valentino G. Dave, and interpreter, Kim Junghyun. (PNA)
