Two-year probationary period pushed in the Lower House

Probinsyano Ako Partylist Representative Jose Singson Jr.’s House Bill No. 4802 seeking to lengthen the probationary period of employees from six months to two years has garnered widespread contradiction. His contention on the proposal lies on the prolonged employment of laborers from six months (the probationary time in effect) to a couple of years. He explained that there are workers who, after completion of the probationary period, are terminated. Despite the rationale, labor groups gave their thumbs-down on the move, reasoning that this would just promote contractualization. The Department of Labor and Employment also disapproved the same by reason of possible denial of employee benefits to probationary workers.
