COMELEC stops all poll activities

MANILA — The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) officially ordered the cessation of all activities related to the preparations for the Oct. 23 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections, two days after President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act 10952 postponing the electoral exercises to May 2018.

In Resolution No. 10212, the Commission en banc also stopped the implementation of the gun ban and the enforcement of other prohibited acts.

Likewise, the poll body directed its officials and their deputies to hold on and keep all the documents and other election paraphernalia that are already in their custody.

It may be recalled that the COMELEC had already finished printing more than 59 million official ballots to be used in the polls.

On Oct. 2, Duterte signed R.A. 10952 postponing the barangay and SK polls to the second Monday of May 2018. (Ferdinand G. Patinio/PNA)
