NDRRMC apprises the nation of typhoon Tisoy’s devastation

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), through its spokesperson Mark Cashean Timbal, informs on the preliminary aftermath of typhoon Tisoy in the Philippines.

Sorsogon is the first province that experiences the wrath of Tisoy following the typhoon’s landfall there at 11:00 P.M. last night, December 02, 2019. Consequently, tremendous damage is experienced by the area in the form of thrown house debris, tumbled ceilings, and deleterious flood.

To date, there is no casualty from the onslaught of Tisoy, primarily attributed to the well-conceived preemptive evacuation in storm surge-, landslide-, and flood-prone places.

The evacuees number more than 225,000, coming from Regions V, VIII, Calabarzon, and Mimaropa. The NDRRMC ensures that enough meals are provided to the refugees. It also assures that every family will have its own food pack.

Some towns in Albay, Catanduanes, and Masbate provinces suffer power shut down in keeping with the local power cooperatives’ safeguard against electric accidents on individuals.

As departure message, Timbal calls on the public, especially to the dwellers in Mimaropa and Calabarzon, to observe safety measures amid the ongoing assault of typhoon Tisoy in the country. For those whom did not yet evacuate, there are advised to defer any unnecessary errand and be on the watch for any adversities around them, particularly flood and landslide. For the evacuees, they are encouraged not to go out of the refuge to avoid any harmful incidents.
