The Filipino community practices many symbolic actions in line with the celebration of the New Year’s Day, some of which are the placement of a dozen of fruits on the table in New Year Day’s eve, throwing of coins throughout the house in the same period, wearing of clothes mottled with numerous circles, jumping 12 times at 12:00 midnight, clattering of coins inside one’s pocket, and fulfillment of debts before the fall of the new year. Experts inform that said practices came from the Spaniards and are triggered by insecurity on the part of the Filipinos, brought about by the absence of such doings.
