The Philippine government, in response to the escalating tension between the United States of America and Iran, will send two combat battalions to Middle East, comprising the soldiers of the Philippine Army and Philippine Marine Corps, to carry out the repatriation of Filipinos in the region. Aside from the troopers, the air and naval hardware of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) are all set for the mission. In addition, Philippine Coast Guard’s Barko ng Republika ng Pilipinas Gabriela Silang will join the undertaking. The DND, on top of said assets, eyes the renting of cruise ships or commercial planes to execute the pullback operations.
The AFP informed that soldiers were chosen to be deployed for the repatriation plan because the military men are predisposed to function in such a situation. Further, the diplomatic clearance on countries seen to be as strategic ports of AFP’s hardware, is being processed.
