Classes in Cagayan province suspended due to ‘Odette’

TUGUEGARAO CITY — Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba on Thursday suspended classes from pre-school to senior high school in both public and private schools in the province due to Tropical Depression “Odette.”

Mamba said the suspension of classes from pre-school to high school levels was recommended by the Provincial Climate Change Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PCCDRRMC) due to the continuous rains since Wednesday night.

“Odette” was estimated at 730 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometer per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 65 kph.

Mamba ordered the suspension as a precautionary measure as rivers and low-lying areas in Cagayan have accumulated floodwaters brought about by the weather disturbance.

The governor is advising people living near mountains slopes and low-lying areas to take necessary precautionary measures against possible flashfloods, landslides and swelling of the rivers.

Mamba also urged the Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (LDRRMC) of every municipality in the province also to be on the alert. (PNA)
