Valle named DOH OIC

MANILA — The Department of Health (DOH) announced Thursday that Undersecretary Herminigildo Valle has been designated by Malacañang Palace as department officer-in-charge.

According to DOH spokesperson, Dr. Corazon Flores, the appointment of Dr. Valle was issued through a memorandum from the Office of Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdea dated October 10.

Valle’s designation aims to ensure continuous and effective delivery of health service to the public after the Commission on Appointment rejected Dr. Paulyn Ubial last Tuesday, said Flores.

Prior to his designation as OIC, Valle held the position of undersecretary for the Office of Field Implementation and Management (OFIM).

Valle, who hails from Davao City, finished Medical Technology at the Far Eastern University-Dr. Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation-School of Medical Technology. He graduated cum laude as Doctor of Medicine.

In 1985, he served as a rural physician in Marilog district, Davao City. For further training, he went to the United States where he finished his General Surgery Internship at the Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the Long Island College Hospital, also in New York, and his Vascular Medicine Fellowship in Cleveland, Ohio.

He also served as medical director/CEO at the San Francisco Vascular Institute, coordinator for the Philippine Medical Missions, and assistant clinical professor at the University of California San Francisco. He was the first Filipino chief of staff at the Seton Medical Center in San Mateo County, California, and was president of the Philippine Medical Society of Northern California.

Among the awards he received are the Eye of Lion Award given by the San Francisco Host Lion’s Club, and St. Louise de Marillac Award bestowed by the Daughters of Charity Health System for unselfish dedication to the care of the poor and the sick. (Leilani Junio/PNA)
