PRO6 to decide on Espenido’s fate – PNP Chief

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Pol. Gen. Archie Gamboa said the fate of Lt. Gen. Jovie Espenido, following his remarks on his inclusion in the drug watch list, will be decided by Police Regional Office (PRO) 6.

Gamboa said Espenido’s statement on his inclusion In the watch list is against the gag order issued against policemen involved in the list.

He added that Western Visayas Regional Director Pol. BGen. Rene Pamuspusan has summoned Espenido to explain.

“As a matter of procedure, the regional director of Region VI already took charge of that process,” Gamboa said.

“Based on the appreciation of explanation of Espenido, should he be not convinced, then appropriate pre-charged will be executed. Otherwise, puwede ring hindi,” he added.

The PNP Chief also clarified that insubordination is too much of a punishment for the Espenido.

“Bilang ama, I understand people because of emotions, naapektuhan ang pamilya kaya ayaw ko magsalita, pero siya ang nagsalita ng una, so he will be dealt with accordingly,” he said.

Gamboa earlier said he wants to deal with Espenido internally, noting that he won’t be giving any further details to the public.

Meanwhile, Gamboa is expected to submit his recommendation against narco cops to President Duterte in the Joint Command Conference of PNP and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on March 3.
