Bus drivers with multiple traffic violations have been banned on the roads of Metro Manila starting Monday.
The decision has been made by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Jojo Garcia, city bus operators, and the officials from the Land Transportation Office (LTO), Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) due to drivers the lives of their passengers in danger.
In February, the MMDA has passed a list of 12,000 names of drivers with multiple violations. 2,500 of them were issued show cause orders by the LTO.
Under Republic Act 4136 or The Land Transportation and Traffic Code of the Philippines, if a driver commits the same violation three times, he is meted an automatic suspension of his license within one to two years.
