President Rodrigo Duterte bared he wants “maximum penalty” to be imposed on the suspects of the recent killing of Jeanelyn Villavende, an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in Kuwait.
The Chief Executive also said he will personally go to Kuwait to talk with the Middle Eastern country’s officials on the matter.
“I have to go to Kuwait. But ‘yung kaso na pinatay ‘yung (the case on the killing of the) maid, domestic helper, they have arrested the couples and undergoing trial. And while undergoing trial, they are detained inside the jail. To me that is good justice,” President Duterte said.
“I will ask for the maximum. I want their executioner to cut off the heads of those who are responsible for the death of the Filipina,” he added.
Although there is a travel ban imposed by Kuwait on the Philippines due to COVID-19, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the President may be exempted especially if it concerns an important matter.
“Knowing this President, I think he will pursue what he said. Pwede namang pag-usapan ‘yan (it can be talked through), government to government. They can always exempt the President,” he said. – Report from Mela Lesmoras
