In a ceremony at Malacañang on Wednesday, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. received the credentials of the newly appointed Ambassador-designate of the Kingdom of Spain to the Philippines Xavier Martí Martí.
As he welcomed the envoy, the President revisited the deep historical ties between Manila and Madrid, which he touts as an indispensable alliance forged by time.
“The centuries-old relationship between our two countries is unmatched in any other in the history of the Philippines, and I believe also in Spain…It is as deep as any relationship can be between two countries. Still, the modern world presents us with many opportunities to enlarge and expand the scope of that relationship.”
He likewise expressed his eagerness to work with the Spanish diplomat in finding ways to further strengthen the ties of both nations.
In response, Ambassador Martí Martí reaffirmed Spain’s commitment to work with the Philippines, highlighting the 80th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Ambassador Martí Martí said, “Spain also attaches great importance to reinforcing the cultural, educational and people-to-people dimension of our partnership, which remains one of the most enduring foundations of the friendship between our nations.”
The Ambassador is a multi-hyphenated envoy, previously serving various positions within Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which include human resources, budgeting, management of the diplomatic service, and consular administration.
Since joining the diplomatic service in 2006, he has served in various diplomatic posts in Peru, Brazil, and Kenya.
