Ph COVID-19 cases now 187, death toll at 14

The Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday afternoon reported additional 45 COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 187.

As the number of cases and persons who have recovered from the illness increased, the number of people killed by COVID-19 in the country also rose.

As of 8:30 PM today, the health department reported the death of two COVID-19 patients (PH126 and PH129), bringing the total number of deaths to 14.

Patient 126 is a 76-year-old Filipino male who died due to Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) and severe pneumonia. He was admitted last March 9 at the Adventist Medical Center in Manila and was confirmed positive for COVID-19 on March 15. The DOH said he has Type 2 diabetes and hypertensive cardiovascular disease.

Patient 129 is a 67-year-old Filipino male who expired at the Lung Center of the Philippines after experiencing ARDS secondary to COVID-19, as well as community-acquired pneumonia. He is known to be hypertensive and was confirmed with COVID-19 on March 15.

Meanwhile, the health department confirmed on the same day the recovery of two (PH 14 and PH 25) confirmed COVID-19 cases in two consecutive days. The total number of patients who have recovered has now reached four.

Patient 14 is a 46-year-old male from Pasay City who had no travel history and no known exposure to a case, while Patient 25 is a 31-year-old male from Negros Oriental and is one of the repatriates from the Diamond Princess Cruise Ship.

Reports from the DOH show that among the health facilities with the greatest number of newly admitted COVID-19 patients are RITM, Cardinal Santos Medical Center, and St. Luke’s Medical Center in BGC.

Data provided by the DOH also show that almost 40 percent of the COVID-19 cases in the country have no travel history outside Philippines and had no exposure to a confirmed case. – Report from Mark Fetalco
