DSWD reduces number of personnel due to social distancing

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) admitted it had to cut the number of its personnel, resulting to lesser family food packs prepared in a day due to social distancing.

Compared to the daily 30,000 produced packs then, the number of packs prepared a day has now become smaller at 15,000.

A dozen of personnel previously working on a table has now been limited to five persons. Aside from the 35 personnel under a skeletal workforce arrangement, volunteers have now been staying home due to the enhanced community quarantine.

Since the DSWD also prepares the requested goods by local government units (LGUs) to assist them with the supplies, the department now delivers the requested number of relief goods one at a time.

Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will volunteer to repack the food packs to speed up the delivery to the LGUs of National Capital Region (NCR).

“We have requested from Armed Forces of the Philippines na (who are) volunteers. They will be giving us 70 personnel, at saka ‘yung driver siguro ng truck (and maybe the driver of the truck),” DSWD National Resource Operations Center (NROC) Dir. Emmanuel Privado said.

The field offices of the DSWD are also working to provide necessary relief for the residents of other provinces in Luzon. – Report from Karen Villanda
