DOH: Medical experts from China to arrive in Ph

Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III disclosed that medical experts from China are set to arrive in the Philippines on April 6 to help contain the spread of COVID-19.

“Ang role nila (Their role) is to give expert advice to our doctors, to our clinicians and to our public health practitioners with regard to their experience in China, in (the) Wuhan and Hubei lockdown and patient care, clinical management ng kanilang COVID cases, what they have learned from the experience that they’re willing to share with us,” Duque said.

The DOH shared it has started to study one anti-flu medicine from Japan that is said to be effective in treating patients with COVID-19. The said medicine is Favipiravir with the brand name Avigan which has shown good results in two clinical trials.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is optimistic about the medicine and is ready to bring it into the country once approved. – Report from Mark Fetalco
