DTI-‘Diskwento Promo’ profits from work, classes suspension

SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique — Business transactions in Antique province on Tuesday continued without any hitch and unaffected by the two-day suspension of government work and classes due to transport strike.

Lynna Joy Cardinal, information officer of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) -Antique Province, said the flow of selling basic necessities in the province was unhampered since there were many public transport that plied the streets.

“There has so far been no big impact among businessmen,” she said.

She said consumers even visited the last day of their “Consumer Welfare Month Diskwento Promo” in Dalipe Tradetown in San Jose de Buenavista due to the suspension of work and classes. The discount promo started on October 14.

Glen D. Fernando, DTI Antique provincial office trade and industry development specialist, said the suspension of work gave opportunity for the government employees to avail of the 5 to 25 percent discounts offered by the participating firms like Nestle Philippines, LVS Commercial, and other local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

“The suspension of government work even favored the ‘Diskwento Promo’,” he added.

Fernando said the gross sales generated from the three-day “Diskwento Promo” amounted to PHP67,907, higher than last year’s PHP60,436 only.

He added that many consumers took advantage of the offer to buy candles for All Saint’s Day, personal care products and muscovado sugar sold by the Laua-an Multi Purpose Cooperative.

The National Food Authority (NFA) Antique provincial office also joined the promo by selling affordable rice to consumers. (PNA)
