COVID-19 cases now at 8,928

The Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday reported the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country has reached 8,928 after 156 new cases have been added to the tally.

The death toll has also soared to 603 as 24 more COVID-19 patients expired. The total of recoveries has reached 1,124 after 40 patients have recovered.

Meanwhile, the DOH announced on its Facebook page that it is currently conducting emergency hiring of health workers such as physicians, nurses, medical technologists, and other support health personnel “on a contract of service basis for a minimum of three months.”

The health department said hired applicants will be assigned to DOH-designated COVID-referral hospitals and diagnostic facilities, COVID-19 temporary treatment and monitoring facilities, public and DOH-designated private hospitals handling COVID-19 cases, and in Regional and Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Units.

The health department said this is meant to boost the current health workforce amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
