Water levels in Angat, La Mesa, Ipo dams dip as temperature continues to rise

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said extreme heat will persist and temperatures will continue to rise in Mega Manila in the next few days as the country experiences easterlies.

PAGASA weather forecaster Lorie Dela Cruz explained we are currently at the peak of “Tag-init” or dry season. Frequent thunderstorms are expected by the end of May.

Since May 4, the maximum weather temperature in Mega Manila ranged from 36 to over 37 degrees Celsius. On May 7, the highest temperature in the country was recorded in Tuguegarao City at 39 degrees Celsius.

Dela Cruz said some parts of the country may also experience hot weather, and the highest temperatures are usually recorded from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Meanwhile, the water level in major dams that supply water in the Mega City continues to drop as temperatures soar. The water level in Angat dam dropped from 189.84 meters on May 4 to 189.28 meters on May 7.

La Mesa dam’s water level dipped from 76.59 meters to 76.46 meters while Ipo dam’s water level also fell from 99.91 meters to 99.86 meters on the same period.

The National Water Resources Board (NWRB) assured the sufficiency of water supply for the coming weeks and months. NWRB Executive Director Dr. Sevillo David guaranteed the 46 cubic meters per second for Metro Manila.

The NWRB has high hopes Angat Dam will reach the 212 desired meter water elevation which will ensure sufficient water supply for Mega Manila in 2021.
