Solons approve ‘Anti-Terrorism’ Bill on third reading

The House of Representatives has approved on third reading House Bill 6875 or the “Anti-Terrorism” Bill Wednesday with 173 affirmative votes.

The “Anti-Terrorism” Bill will repeal the Human Security Act of 2007 and will provide additional surveillance power for the police and military. Under the proposed law, those who will make terroristic threats may face 12-year imprisonment.

Congress has adopted the Senate version of the bill so it will not pass through the Bicameral Conference Committee.

However, some quarters are apprehensive of possible abuses especially against activists if the bill is passed. PBA Partylist Representative Jericho Nograles, one of the principal authors stated that it is not meant to attack activists.
