Malacañang has welcomed the result of the new SWS survey which revealed that 84 percent of Filipinos believe “strict stay-at-home” measures amid the COVID-19 pandemic are “worth it” to protect citizens and prevent the further spread of the virus.
Only 15 percent of the respondents view the strict stay-at-home measures as “placing too many burdens on people.”
“President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has, indeed, acted decisively when he imposed an enhanced community quarantine and stringent social distancing measures over the entire Luzon area, following the sharp increase in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said.
While the decision was difficult, Roque expressed gratitude for the public’s understanding on the consequences of the President’s directive.
“The decision, we have to stress, is not an easy one because as we protect the health and safety of our people, the means of livelihood and the economy have been greatly affected,” Roque shared.
The SWS survey was conducted from May 4 to 10 through mobile phone and computer-assisted telephone interview.
