IATF now considering fate of provincial buses

Malacañang reported on Thursday the IATF is now discussing whether to allow provincial buses to operate for the second phase of public transport operations that will start on June 22.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the government assumed Metro Manila will be under MGCQ during the second phase when the IATF was drafting the first and second phases of transportation.

Since Metro Manila remains under GCQ, the fate of provincial buses is yet to be finalized as the matter must first undergo review.

Meanwhile, modernized PUVs will be allowed to travel starting Monday. In case the number of public transportation will still not meet the needs of commuters, there is a possibility of jeepneys getting back on the roads.

“Although, alam naman po ng LTFRB na habang wala tayong mabigay na alternative livelihood at habang kulang talaga ang mga sasakyan sa kalye, baka kinakailangan, subject to health standards (Although the LTFRB knows that while we cannot provide alternative livelihood and while there is lack of vehicles in thoroughfares, there may be a need to let them operate subject to health standards),” Roque explained.
