The Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday reported 562 confirmed COVID-19 cases including 481 fresh and 81 late cases, bringing the total count to 27,799 in the country.
Out of the 481 fresh cases, 273 came from Region 7, 120 from NCR, and 88 from other parts of the country.
The DOH announced the recovery tally increased to 7,090 after 270 more patients recuperated while the death toll slightly rose to 1,116 after nine patients died.
DOH USec. Maria Rosario Vergeire explained there was an increase in the case count of Cebu, resulting in the decision to place Cebu City under enhanced community quarantine.
Meanwhile, the DOH and experts, in line with the National Safe Kids Week, reminded parents to strictly monitor their children amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Ang pagsubaybay po sa loob ng ating tahanan ay pinaka malakas o pinaka epektibong preventive intervention (Monitoring at home is the strongest and most effective preventive intervention),” DOH Children’s Health Development Division OIC Chief Dr. Anthony Calibo said.
“Sa pamamagitan po ng pagbabantay at pagsusubaybay po sa kanila, alam po natin ang maaaring mangyari at alam po natin ang paghahanda (By watching over and supervising them, we know what might happen and we will know how to prepare),” he added.
Calibo also advised parents to list down barangay personnel to contact in case there is a need for children to be rushed to emergency rooms.
