No evacuation yet for residents near Kanlaon Volcano

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) does not recommend the evacuation of residents near Kanlaon Volcano despite its continuous activity.

44 volcanic tectonic earthquakes have been reported in the past 24 hours, and Mt. Kanlaon has emitted white smoke reaching 200 meters. Alert level 1 has been raised and entering the 4-kilometer radius permanent danger zone is prohibited.

According to PHIVOLCS, there is no indication of the magma rising to its crater which may cause a huge eruption. However, the agency is asking the public to be alert amid the volcanic earthquakes.
