Ressa, Santos file motion for partial reconsideration with Manila lower court

Rappler CEO Maria Ressa and former Rappler writer-researcher Reynaldo Santos have appealed to the lower court regarding their cyber libel conviction. In the motion for partial reconsideration filed by Ressa and Santos, they urged Manila RTC Branch 46 Judge Rainelda Estacio-Montesa to move for their acquittal. They also requested setting aside the award of damages worth Php 400,000 in favor of the private complainant, Wilfredo Keng.

Rappler’s legal counsel also questioned the judge’s ruling and the prescriptive period of the case. Several arguments were cited including the Manila court overlooking a few facts, evidences, laws and how Ressa and Santos violated constitutional rights.
