Suspected car thief killed in Cavite shootout

GENERAL TRIAS CITY, Cavite — A suspected car thief was shot dead after ignoring a police checkpoint in Pasong Camachile, this city Thursday afternoon.

Investigation showed policemen were manning a checkpoint in Pasong Camachile when the motorcycle-riding suspect slipped through it, totally ignoring the law enforcers.

The police immediately dispatched a mobile team to go after the suspect.

He went on to disregard the lawmen’s signal for him to stop and allegedly pulled out a gun and fired at them instead.

Law enforcers were prompted to return fire and killed the suspect identified through his identification cards as Cesar Portugues Gamboa, a resident of San Raphael II, Noveleta, Cavite. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but died along the way.

Recovered from Gamboa was a black Yamaha motorcycle (7465 VN) which police said was stolen in Barangay San Juan 1, Noveleta. It was learned that the suspect has just gotten out of jail also for violation of Republic Act No. 6539, otherwise known as The Anti-Carnapping Act of 1972.

The police also recovered from him a caliber .38 revolver with five ammunition and a wallet containing identification cards and driver’s license. (Rogelio Limpin/PNA)
