Over 15,000 PDLs released amid COVID-19

More than 15,000 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) have been released amid the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

The release aims to reduce the number of inmates to decongest cells and prevent the further spread of the virus in the area.

According to Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año, the PDLs have been released from March 17 to June 22.

Out of the 15,322 PDLs, 5,910 are from NCR, 1,557 from Calabarzon, 1,487 from Central Visayas, 1,041 from Central Luzon, 897 from Zamboanga Peninsula and 762 from Northern Mindanao and other regions.
