PNP, AFP to strengthen bond

The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will strengthen their coordination to prevent the Sulu incident from happening again.

The Inspector Generals of the Security Forces are set to meet and talk about their measures regarding the coordination. The AFP and PNP are also tasked to form a board of inquiry.

However, PNP Chief Police General Archie Gamboa clarified that it only aims to improve the operational procedures of the police and military.

Gen. Gamboa stated that both AFP and PNP have assured the President that they will conform with the result of the investigation on the Jolo incident. He also talked with the 9 police officers involved in the incident.

“Sinabi ko lang sa kanila na you will go to Crame para ma-diffuse ‘yung tension and then expect kung ano yung sasabihin ng NBI that hindi ako makikialam. So kung mayroon liable sa inyo then so be it. (I told them that to go to Crame to diffuse the tension and then expect that whatever the NBI will say, I will not interfere. So if there is someone liable among you who is, then so be it.)”

Meanwhile, the 9 police officers were set to be brought to Camp Crame when one of them tested positive for COVID-19 in the rapid test. They are still awaiting the result of the swab test before transferring to the PNP Headquarters.

The PNP Chief Gamboa added that the hearing of the 9 policemen for an administrative case will start after the investigation. – Report from Bea Bernardo
