2 hospitals to stop accepting COVID-19 patients

The Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center in Manila will temporarily stop accepting COVID-19 patients due to full capacity of beds dedicated for severe COVID-19 conditions. The management of the said hospitals stated in a letter that they have to limit admission of COVID-19 patients for the meantime to give more attention to the needs of their other patients.

The Department of Health (DOH) explained that many private and public hospitals in Metro Manila have not yet reached full capacity, but admitted that the supply for critical care in hospitals is at moderate risk.

“Lahat ng hospital were mandated 30% dapat ng kanilang (All hospitals were mandated that 30% of their) bed capacity should be allocated for COVID-19 patients, but not all hospitals comply with this,” DOH USec. Vergeire admitted.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque on Monday announced DOH USec. Leopoldo Vega has been designated to the Hospital 1 Incident Command to monitor the capacity of COVID-19 hospitals.

Meanwhile, there is an estimated 8,000 backlogs in the reporting of COVID-19 cases. The DOH has only reported new cases from 58 out of 73 laboratories in the country. Vergeire explained that there are still laboratories that are late in submitting data due to lack of medical technologists. The DOH will meet medical laboratory personnel on Tuesday to address the matter.

As of July 6, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country reached 46,333 after 1,258 fresh and 841 late cases were reported. The recovery tally increased to 12,185 while the death toll rose to 1,303. Total active cases is now at 32,845.
