Pets now used in online scamming

The Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) disclosed that animals are being exploited as means to deceive people online.

“Magkakaroon ng mga scam na tinatawag, marami tayong natatanggap na reports na iyong mga ibinebenta ay healthy na pino-post…Kapag na-receive na ng mga bibili, doon na nagsho-show na mga sakit (There’s a so-called scam. We receive many reports that the pets being sold are posted as healthy. They start showing illness once they are received by buyers),” Animal Welfare Program OIC Dr. Noverlee Calub explained.

Calub said the animals may even infect other pets at home, and there is a great chance that those sold online have rabies.

“Usually, kapag mga dogs ay iyong Parvo at distemper (Usually for dogs, it’s Parvo and distemper).”

The BAI advised the public to buy from registered pet shops, determine if the animals are vaccinated and dewormed, and assure that they have a record.

The BAI warned to close businesses that violate the Animal Welfare Act. Online sellers involved in pet scam can be reported to BAI hotlines 0961787474 and 8528-2226, BAI-Animal Health and Welfare Division Facebook page, and through [email protected] Meanwhile, the bureau is encouraging adoption of pets instead of buying.
