NoCot distributes high variety coco seedlings

AMAS, Kidapawan City — To sustain production of virgin coconut oil, copra and coco sugar, among others, the provincial agriculturist office here has intensified distribution of free high variety coconut seedlings to various farmers’ groups in the province.

Eliseo Mangliwan, North Cotabato provincial agriculturist, said the program aims to sustain production of coconut products and help farmers increase their income as well.

Since January this year, a total of 16,500 high variety coconut seedlings have been dispersed to over 150 beneficiaries across the province,

Remedios Hernandez, provincial coconut coordinator, said seedlings were distributed to farmers in Kidapawan City and the towns of Pres. Roxas, Kabacan, Alamada, Carmen, Matalam, Tulunan, M’lang and Pigcawayan.

She said the total cost of seedlings dispersed the past week amounted to almost Php500, 000.

Supplementing the distribution of coconut seedlings was a seminar for coconut farmers on ciconut farming latest technology.

Hernandez said Triple P Farms and Nursery provided the seedlings.

Called as “dwarf variety,” the coconut trees are known to be pest resistant and produce more as compared to the local variety.

The coconut seedling dispersal forms part of the Coconut Development Program of the provincial government. (PNA)
