Around 50 barangay leaders may face suspension amid SAP anomalies

Around 50 barangay chairpersons from various areas in the country are expected to be suspended from duty this week due to involvement in anomalies in the SAP distribution.

DILG Secretary Eduardo Año reported during the meeting of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) with President Rodrigo R. Duterte that the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has recorded a total of 155 criminal complaints. They are now coordinating with the Office of the Ombudsman on the matter.

“’Yung pagpapalabas ng preventive suspension sa mga barangay captain na nagkaroon ng mga malversation, corruption, estafa at iba pang mga graft-related anomalies dito po sa pagdi-distribute ng SAP. Ang atin pong CIDG ay nakapagtala ng 155 criminal complaints (On the issuance of preventive suspension to barangay captains who had engaged with malversation, corruption, estafa and other graft-related anomalies in the SAP distribution. The CIDG has recorded 155 criminal complaints,” Sec. Aῆo said.

“My training at least involved a lot of prosecution of criminal cases in court sa corruption. So ‘yan ang ano ko ngayon, maligaya ako sa trabaho ni Secretary Año. Talagang ipahabol ko kayo at saka walang pakiusapan (I am happy with the job well done by Sec. Aῆo. I will really go after you [corrupt officials] and there will be no negotiations),” President Duterte warned.
