Postponement of class opening sought at the Senate

Lawmakers at the Upper Chamber are seeking the postponement of the opening of classes originally set on August 24.

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian explained that the number of COVID-19 cases in the country is increasing and nobody knows what will happen if the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) is lifted on August 18. He insisted that the safety and health of teachers and personnel of the Department of Education (DepEd) must first be ensured before the opening of classes.

Senator Francis Tolentino suggested moving the start of classes on October. He also pointed out the questionable internet connection in other areas and the lack of equipment of the DepEd to be used for online learning. – PTV News
