Mandatory use of face shields to begin tomorrow, other measures to address COVID-19 in place

Aside from face mask, the wearing of face shield will become mandatory in offices and public transportation in the country starting tomorrow, August 15.

National Task Force Against COVID-19 Chief Implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. reminded the public to follow such measure for a more effective prevention of COVID-19 transmission

“Nakita po natin na vice versa iyong galing po sa community papunta po sa kanilang trabaho, ma-infect po iyong mga kasamahan po nila sa workplace at the same time, iyon naman sa workplace ay kinu-contaminate naman po iyong nasa community (We have seen that those coming from the community who go to work may infect their workmates, and vice versa),” Galvez said.

“So iyon po ang ginagawa po natin (So that is what we are doing). Just recently, DOTr and the DOLE have issued guidelines on the mandatory use of the face shields in public transportation and in the workplace,” Galvez added.

Meanwhile, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque announced that “President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is now reviewing the recommendation to establish a Virology Science and Technology Institute of the Philippines that will serve as a premiere research institute in virology and diseases to strengthen local vaccine development in the country”.

He added that the close monitoring of local governments with high number of COVID-19 cases is in place.

“The assignment of Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) members to LGUs, we reiterate, is to ensure close coordination between the national government and LGUs and to harmonize the policies being crafted by the IATF and the operational framework that is being implemented on the ground,” Roque clarified.
