Cops’ narrative on Jolo shooting different from NBI findings

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has released details of its investigation on the Jolo shooting incident last June.

During the Senate hearing on the Jolo shooting on Wednesday, it surfaced that the findings of the NBI do not jibe with the narrative of the policemen involved in the encounter.
The NBI said the four soldiers were unarmed during the encounter and all the bullet casings in the areas matched the weapons of the policemen.

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Gilbert Gapay was saddened over the fact that no one has been convicted yet.

“We’ve been waiting for two months already, Justice delayed is justice denied. We expect immediate filing of the recommendations and charges found out by the NBI,” Gapay stated.

“The truth should come out. Nag-speculate tayo eh, may drug angle diyan. Okay sige baka nga may drug angle diyan. Baka may nasagasaan din ang tropa namin. Pure speculation. O baka may nag-utos na tirahin ‘yan. Projekin niyo. That’s why we are requesting that case must be filed in court (We speculated that there might have been a drug angle. Our troops may have ran over someone. It’s pure speculation. Or maybe someone ordered to shoot them. Make it a project. That’s why we are requesting that a case must be filed in court),” Gapay added. – Report from Mica Joson
