Ombudsman orders suspension of 13 PhilHealth officials

The Office of the Ombudsman (OMB) has imposed a six-month suspension on 13 officials of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) over the alleged corruption within the corporation.

Included in the list of suspended officials are:

1. Dennis Mas, Senior Vice President for Management and Service Sector
2. Israel Pargas, Senior Vice President for Health Finance and Policy Sector
3. Shirley Domingo, Vice President for Corporate Affairs Group
4. Rodolfo del Rosario, Legal Sector Chief
5. Roy Ferrer
6. Celestina Ma. Jude dela Serna
7. Ruben John Basa
8. Raul dominic Padilla
9. Angelito Grande
10. Lawrence Mijares
11. Leila Tuzon
12. Eugenio Donatos II
13. Clemente Bautista
Based on the directive issued by Ombudsman Samuel Martires, strong evidence were found against the officials on cases of grave misconduct and oppression.

PhilHealth tweeted that it has not yet received the order and the officials are still unaware of the cases filed against them. A statement will be issued once they get a copy of the order.

Meanwhile, some congressmen are pushing to overhaul the corporation amid the issues. Marikina Representative Stella Quimbo also filed House Bill 7429 seeking to grant the President the power to reorganize or privatize PhilHealth. – Report from Daniel Manalastas
