Cebu City COVID-19 situation getting better

Three weeks after Cebu City was placed under general community quarantine (GCQ), the COVID-19 situation in the city has continuously improved from its status in the previous months.

An almost 50 percent decline in the number of active cases was recorded, wherein the 3,463 active cases in June fell to 1,244 on August 1 to 20. The city also recorded the highest number of recoveries last month, bringing the total to 5,202. There are currently 7,579 recoveries in the city.

“The infection is really down which used to be like three digits from the previous months…Right now, we are down to two digits, less than 20. In fact, the other day we only got seven,” IATF for the Visayas Deputy Chief Implementer Mel Feliciano said.

“When we talk about recoveries, we now surpassed the 80 percent recovery rate,” Feliciano added.

Cebu City also recorded a 4.1 percent positivity rate on August 15 which is significantly lower than the 30.2 percent rating last June 14.

IATF Cebu City also reported that no more sitios and areas were placed under granular lockdown. Contact tracing efforts have been strengthened, together with the emergency command center.

Among the best practices of the city are improving quick response teams and establishing of cluster clinic and barangay isolation center. – Report from John Aroa
