LTO begins distribution of new motorcycle plate numbers

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has started the distribution of thousands of motorcycle plate numbers. 70,000 plates have been initially distributed for those registered in 2018.

The design of the new plate is in accordance with RA 11235 or the “Doble Plaka” Law.

According to the agency, the color of the plates will differ from one region to another. Motorcycle plates for those registered in the National Capital Region (NCR) are black and white. New safety features such as the RFID Sticker, QR Code and Reflectorized Sheeting have also been added to the new plate. It can be seen at night and from a distance of up to 15 meters.

The agency added that delay was caused by two legal issues in 2013 and were resolved in 2018, and due to the final design of the plates. Color experts, motorcycle groups and other experts have been consulted for the design

As of August 24, more than 1 million backlogs of motorcycle plates have been with the LTO-NCR. However, the agency has assured that they will be completed with its new project that will be launched in September. Under the Moving Forward Project, the LTO will issue the Official Receipt (OR), Certificate of Registration (CR), and plates at the same time.

Only more than 70,000 plates can be manufactured per day in the central office plate manufacturing plant. The registration will still last up to 7 days.

The LTO reminds the public that motorcycles must still be registered despite unavailability of plates for the moment.
