PRRD salutes frontliners on National Heroes’ Day

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has honored frontline workers who continue to battle the COVID-19 pandemic in commemorating the Philippine National Heroes’ Day celebration.
President Duterte emphasized in his message that aside from our late heroes, our modern Filipino heroes within and beyond the country’s borders must also be recognized in this important occasion.

“I hope that the bravery of our Filipino heroes, past and present, will inspire us all to face and overcome even the most unfavorable situations. Together, let us become everyday heroes as we pursue a better future for everyone,” he enjoined.

A simple ceremony was also held at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City in remembrance of the occasion with the theme “Tunay na Kabayanihan sa Paglaban at Pagbangon (Genuine heroism in battle and recovery).” The Chief Executive was represented by AFP Chief of Staff Lt.Gen. Gilbert Gapay.

PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar in a separate statement encouraged the public to “reflect on our history and be reminded of the courage and determination of our nation’s heroes to fight for our freedom and for democracy against colonial and social ills.”

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles and Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana also highlighted the value of cooperation and support for one another.

“Heroism is more effective as a collective effort because we share common goals, aspirations and challenges. We should continue dreaming and working together,” Nograles stated.

“Let this day serve as a reminder for us to unite and support each other as we recover from the effects of the pandemic as well as work together to safeguard our communities from the threat of criminality, terrorism and violent extremism,” Lorenzana added. – Report from Mela Lesmoras
