MMDA records 10 steel bollard-related accidents in EDSA

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has recorded 10 recent accidents with the newly-installed steel bollards along EDSA.

According to the MMDA, the accidents have occurred around 3:00 in the morning even though a curfew is in place. Almost 100 barrier-related accidents have been recorded in EDSA since June and MMDA EDSA Traffic Management Unit Chief Col. Edison Bong Nebrija revealed that majority of the accidents happeneed at night.

Joint Task Force COVID Shield Commander Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar clarified that only essential workers are exempted from the curfew hours due to their duty. However, Lt. Gen. Eleazar reminded that even if the MMDA has requested not to put checkpoints in main thoroughfares, motorists must not be too confident since there are random checkpoints by the local police and the Highway Patrol Group.

According to JTF COVID Shield Commander Eleazar, once caught the punishments are community service for the first offense, a fine for the second and for the third offense comes imprisonment. – Report from Karen Villanda
