Cebu City now under MGCQ

The city of Cebu has been placed under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) for the first time amid improvement in its COVID-19 situation.

Under MGCQ, senior citizens and individuals 20 years-old and younger will now be able to go out except during curfew hours starting 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. QR passes will still be required. More establishments have also opened including restaurants, internet cafés, shipping companies, and sports facilities for non-contact sports such as jogging and cycling.

Authorities have emphasized the importance of observing health protocols as the fight against COVID-19 is not yet over.

“We have to continue being very vigilant because there will be more people going out on the streets,” Cebu City Mayor Edgar Labella advised.

“We should not be complacent, hindi pa tapos si COVID, hindi pa tapos. Marami pa tayong gagawin. First is strengthening ang ating economy so we will just maintain what we have done (We should not be complacent since COVID is not yet over. We still have a lot to do. First is strengthening the economy so we will just maintain what we have done),” DENR Sec. Roy Cimatu added.

Out of the 9,634 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the city, the number of active cases is now only at 635 as 8,350 have already recovered. A total of 242 active cases are admitted in hospitals while 393 are in isolation centers. – Report from John Aroa
