DILG Sec. Año confirms new PNP Chief

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año has confirmed that Lieutenant General Camilo Cascolan is the next Philippine National Police (PNP) chief.

“President Duterte has just signed his appointment paper.” DILG Sec. Año disclosed.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque announced early Tuesday that PLt.Gen. Cascolan will step in as Officer-in-Charge of the organization since he holds the next highest post in the police force as PNP Deputy Chief for Administration.

PNP Chief General Archie Gamboa is set to retire from his service on Wednesday, September 2. Cascolan will only have two months to lead the police force as he reaches the mandatory retirement age of 56 on November 10.

Meanwhile, Gen. Gamboa, shared he had a discussion with DILG Secretary Año regarding his recommendation for the post. He has also strictly reminded his colleagues that no “Mañanita” must be held.

“I would like to thank the President for giving me the opportunity to serve the Filipino people. It was really nice serving the Filipino people.”
