Nothing new with task as acting Comelec chair: Lim

MANILA — There is nothing new about temporarily taking over the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) top post, acting Commissioner Christian Robert Lim said Tuesday.

“It’s nothing new. Madaming nag-text sa akin ng congratulations,” said Lim, who is the most senior among the commissioners in the poll body.

He added that he asked his fellow commissioners if they were really serious in voting for him to lead the Commission in an acting capacity for the second time.

“Ang sa akin lang, I told the commissioners if they are sure in designating me. I’m retiring and in fact I’m focused now on supposed to be my turn over kasi I have pending cases. Ngayon, as acting chairman mas madaming trabaho,” Lim added.

On the other hand, he revealed that they had already lined up programs that need to be tackled at the soonest possible time.

“We already outlined certain programs that we need to undertake immediately,” the acting poll body chief said.

Lim refused to comment on who might be the next head of the poll body.

“As much as possible, I don’t want to hamstring the choice of the President. It is still the discretion of the President who should be the chairman,” he said.

Lim was designated to the position a day after resigned Chairman Juan Andres Bautista officially left the post after Malacanang accepted his resignation effective immediately.

This is the second time Lim is serving as acting chairman of the poll body. The first one was after the retirement of former Chairman Sixto Brillantes in 2015. (PNA)
