NBI to probe death of Parojinog siblings

Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Menardo Guevarra has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to look into the death of siblings Ricardo Parojinog and Melodia Parojinog-Malingin.

The NBI is set to conduct a preliminary inquiry on the death of the Parojinog siblings inside the jail facility, particularly delving into the state of their health before their deaths.

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Police General Camilo Cascolan has initially disclosed that Ricardo died of cardiac arrest on September 4 while under the custody of the police while Melodia also succumbed due to heart failure.

In a separate statement, the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) urged authorities to closely monitor the investigation of the death of the siblings.

“The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) issues this urgent advisory to alert and urge the government to decisively address the deaths of Ricardo and Melodia Parojinog while in government custody.”

The CHR hopes for a fair, clear, and speedy investigation on the Parojinog siblings.

“Specifically, we urge custodial authorities to pave the way for the transparent, thorough, speedy, and impartial investigation of the said deaths in custody.”
